National Night Out 2023
United Way of Erie County has been a proud sponsor of local National Night Out (NNO) events since 2004 and yesterday the community celebrated NNO across Erie County. This year, United Way provided grant funding to 19 events across Erie County ranging from United Way community schools, county and community organizations, municipalities and other entities.
Families and neighborhoods across the community celebrated in a variety of ways including free food, dance parties, music, magic and art demonstrations, giveaways, chalk walks, face painting and so much more. United Way Senior Vice President of Community Impact, Mike Jaruszewicz, said in an Erie News Now interview to, "think of NNO as a fun summer evening that is very informal but also informative."
NNO aligns with the prevention portion of the three-pronged Unified Erie Violence Reduction Initiative, which you can learn more about the Community Action Plan here. A major focus for NNO events across the nation is to bridge the gap between neighborhoods and their law enforcement.
"We want to see those opportunities where community members can meet each other, where they can meet community organizations offering services but also meet those who are here to protect and serve us," stated Jaruszewicz.
